Barrel Selection Malbec

Neil O'Reilly

Another week, another excellent review of one of our favourites! We are just blown away to hear that TIM ATKIN MW loves our Salentein ‘Barrel Selection’ Malbec as much as we do!

Bodegas Salentein helped pioneer premium winemaking in Argentina’s Uco Valley, a region once overlooked for its rugged conditions but now celebrated among the world’s finest wine-growing areas.  Salentein has elevated the art of high-altitude viticulture. Situated more than 1,200 meters above sea level, the valley’s unique combination of high altitude, abundant sunlight, and cool mountain nights yields grapes of exceptional concentration and character—producing wines of remarkable balance, elegance, and complexity that embody the spirit of the Andes.
Bodegas Salentein is deeply committed to sustainability, becoming the first Argentinian winery to certify the full carbon footprint of its wines. The estate employs drip irrigation to conserve water, recycles organic matter as natural fertilizer, and promotes biodiversity through native cover crops. With ongoing efforts in renewable energy and sustainable packaging, Salentein ensures that every bottle reflects both environmental responsibility and winemaking excellence.
The Barrel Selection range from Bodegas Salentein represents the purest expression of the Uco Valley’s terroir and winemaking excellence. Crafted under the direction of José “Pepe” Galante, each wine in this range is made from carefully selected grapes sourced from Salentein’s high-altitude vineyards, where intense sunlight and cool nights yield fruit of exceptional depth and structure. The wines are aged in French oak barrels to enhance their complexity, balance, and elegance—resulting in rich, full-bodied expressions that showcase Argentina’s finest craftsmanship. The range includes standout varietals such as MalbecCabernet FrancPinot Noir, and Chardonnay, each reflecting the harmony between vineyard, barrel, and winemaker.
